Freedom balancing Power
Richard Wright stated “through the years they grew into an overreaching symbol of fear.” My initial reaction to this statement is these individuals do not have any freedom. But what is freedom? Freedom is the ability to express your ideas and feelings without the fear of being taunted and terrorized. Through this freedom of expression people can achieve satisfaction. The morning class, added to my perspective of freedom. Freedom is the ability to have equal rights as a different group of people in that same society. It empowers an individual to feel superior. In this situation Richard is robbed of freedom. The Jim Crow laws have inaugurated tremendous amounts of trepidation in colored individuals. This causes them to stay submissive to the white race. It also shows the perspective of white people. The white race is afraid of black people being superior through education, financial and political stature. This can corrupt the power that the white race has for many years.

I believe that this power can corrupt the power as you stated. It can only corrupt it if the white race does not get over this fear of blacks becoming superior. If they lose that fear than all they have to do is keep control of how the power is maintained.
I agree with your opinion. We really do not know what freedom is because it does not seem to have been racticed, at least not in this country. The freedom that we have been defined from young age is filled with many restrictions which negates its meaning. We do not know what freedom is because it is unknown to all.
Just to add on to the other posts with agreement, I feel as if no one can really define what freedom is. I think there is more to the quote that you read. You should really analyze it more.Your definition felt like it came from the dictionary because like nikuary said, freedom is unknown to us.
