Dear Mr. Knowitall,
I remember the time I told you where I was from. I didn’t know what to expect because people tend to have different responses. We were talking and you asked me where my family was originally from. I responded by saying that my family was from Tibet. You didn’t know where that was and I can understand because Tibet is no longer a country. Tibet is a part of China today yet before its invasion in 1959, Tibet was its own independent country. Today, many of the world maps people own in their homes do not indicate where Tibet is so I understand why most people don’t know its location. Then, you responded by saying, “Oh, that’s the same thing then. So you’re Chinese right.” The last sentence was more like a statement than a question. I am not Chinese. What makes you think that an orange becomes an apple once it happens to be in the same basket? You did not only tell me where I came from but you refused to believe what came out from my mouth. No, that’s not the same thing. Tibetans and Chinese people are different regarding their cultures and beliefs. First of all, us tibetans speak Tibetan and Chinese people speak different versions of Chinese like Mandarin, Cantonese, etc. Tibetans pray to different gods from Chinese people. Chinese food is not Tibetan food and if you think that we’re Chinese, why are innocent Tibetans in China not given the same human rights? You obviously don’t know it all.
