"Prove to me that its green, the boys says.
It's green because the people say its green.
Those same people say we're citizens of these united States. the boy says.
I think I'm a citizen. the lady says
Citizens have certain rights...name me one right that you have. One right, granted by the Constitution, that you can exercise in Bayonne.
The lady don't answer him. She just look at him like she don't know what he's talking 'bout
Things are changing "
"things are changing because some black men have begun to think with their brains and not their hearts....
you trying to say these people don't believe in God?
I'm sure some of them do. But they don't believe that God is going to touch these white people's hearts and change things tomorrow. Things change through action. By no other way."

This was my favorite part of the story. I truly believe this was important because religon was one thing many relied on in this time period and for one to disagree with it completely and speak openly about it was huge. I enjoyed reading this part and the dialogue really helped me visualize the argument.
i enjoyed the whole convo between the preacher and boy. it was so exciting to hear someone speak up, and let everyone know what he thinks and belive. and since religion was big at the time he was the first to say no i dont belive in a GOD and iam not afarid to stretch my right to free speech, and this was contrvesy to everyone in the office because this young boy is speaking his mind and not shuting up for no one.
